DUB4LIFE

Arriving at Area at 11:30, meeting Bannerworx affiliate Laura E & Josie we made our way into the venue, straight into the main arena to be greeted with the sounds of El B tearing up the set in his usual format of dubplate after dubplate pressure which I can't wait to listen back to on the forth coming CD pack from Dub4Life.

After his set the style switched up from the jump up style of El B to the roots dun of Abashanti, wow, what a transition, but this is where dubstep comes from and the crowd was loving it. You could not stop them skanking to the true basslines ripping through the main arena sound system with some timeless acetate presses I saw him throwing down, my tooth is quaking as I type this!!

Next up steped my bongo brother Hatcha & N Type, hosted by Easy Rider & Crazy D. Dub after dub the crowd felt bruised with the basslines, it was a strictly jump up and shake style set which left many needing the bar, but even standing there, the dancing did not stop.

Up next, the Godfather of Dub, David Rodigan. This was the main attraction for many people, and what a set it was, he gave us a real history lesson in dub, and educated us all on the 40 year history of dub. I can now fully appreciate why this man is followed by so many and in my younger days it was all about Rodigan. He dedicated his set, and the night to the late great pioneer of the Dub sound, King Tubby. For those who know not who this person is, Google or catch David Rodgan at his next event.

After that epic set, it was only right that my pal cooked up the dubstep vibes like the master he is, Chefal. Hosted by Easyrider once again, Chefal threw down, what I can only describe as a vibes set, all heads and bodies moving and all the ladies came out of the back of the room to the front to catch a glimpse of the Chef at work. After that set I was truly stuffed with dub basslines, Caspa was up next but I'll catch his set on the CD pack.

Big shout to the family that put this together, Clayton, Yoko, Scott, Nabeila, Nikki Acute and all staff @ Area, best night I have had out in a long time. Look out for the next Dub4Life event on Saturday 28th November at Area.
